The church that my family and I attend, Morning Star Church in Anderson, IN, has decided to begin a new worship gathering to offer an alternative to its "traditional" Sunday worship service.  Mandy and I have been asked to serve as leaders, and we are praying about building a team to help us lead it.  The gathering is going to be called "the lower room," and we will initially be meeting in the basement of the old Killbuck Lodge (now home of Morning Star Church).  We ask that you will pray with us about this new venture, the first of its kind in our area (that we know of).  We have lots of decisions to make, and even more work to do to get the space ready and get the word out.

We are shooting for having our first gathering on Saturday, March 4th.  If you are interested in emergent forms of Christian worship, coupled with a missional heart for the local community, you might be the sort of person we are looking for.  We would love to hear from you.

Putting on a good show

Every time we put on one of our present.sense experiences, there comes a moment in time when I wonder if what we are doing matters at all.  Usually, that point in time is about 30 minutes before the event is scheduled to end.  At that time, I am mostly just really totally tired, and ready to go home and sleep.  At that time, I really haven't seen anyone having any spectacular time with the Lord, and all I can think about is all the work that went into the night.  One doubt that comes to mind is whether or not we are really doing anything different than our modern worshi-tainment contemporaries.  I mean, we really are putting in a lot of effort to "put on a good show".  Is that OK?  I think you could argue against modern worshi-tainment from a biblical standpoint (simply that what we do isn't found in scripture), even though it is present in so many of our churches, but is it fair to call what we are trying to do "strange fire"?

On Good Friday, we conducted the latest edition of present.sense - the Jesus experience.  Whereas previous p-s experiences have had introspective elements to them, the Jesus experience was entirely focused outward, primarily on the image and words of Christ.  Special thanks to Ray, PBR, and especially Jan Reason for their hard work on Friday.  Here are some photos from Friday night.
